Florida A & M brought a night of music both old and new on Oct. 22 for their annual Homecoming Concert. Students filled Al Lawson beaming with anticipation to see all of their favorite artists.
This year’s lineup featured several artists across different genres. The concert included performances by Bellygang Kushington, T.I., Summer Walker and ended with a performance by headliner Gunna. However, with the popularity of the artists featured at the concert increasing this year, so did the ticket prices.
The FAMUAN previously reported the student body’s reaction to seeing how high prices had spiked since last year’s concert.
Though students felt unsure about spending a lot of money on concert tickets, that did not stop them from showing up to Al Lawson to see the show.
Zareya Stewart a first-year business administration student at FAMU paid over $400 for her and her friend’s VIP tickets.
“From the student ticket app it was $470 for both of us together,” said Stewart.
Despite the expensive tickets, Stewart and her friend Makynzi, a sociology major at Cerrito College were still very excited about the show.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Summer Walker, Bellygang; I just want to see everybody,” Makynzi said. “I’m just ready to see the music and the art.”
Other students had no problem with paying a lot of money and chalked it up to the changes in the economy.
“I think it’s the economy right now honestly. I mean everything is high,” said Kenna Anderson, Master of Occupational Therapy Student. “So, they’re trying to compensate for that too.”
Anderson and her friend Madison King, another master occupational therapy student, paid $235 each for their VIP floor seats.
“We bought ours the day they dropped when they were the highest,” said King. “So, we were like dang, but it’s ok we in the front row in the middle, so it was all worth it.”

The concert lineup started off with Bellygang as he got the crowd hyped up by performing his most popular song “WTF GOIN”.
He was followed by a performance by T.I., who sang all his greatest hits and even brought out special guest and Atlanta native Young Dro.
However, most people were anticipating Summer Walker.
Imani Tulay, Old Dominion University student, came to FAMU’s Homecoming to see her cousin and get the HBCU experience.
“Summer Walker is who I really came for,” said Tulay “She really ate that up.”
Walker’s performance featured a mini skit at the beginning to honor her album, and her stage setup consisted of her singing on top of clear stacked cylinders.
The concert concluded with a set by the headliner Gunna. The Georgia rapper performed songs across his discography, from old ones to new.
Many students and organizers were pleased with the event and thought it was successful.
Caitlin Smith, Student Body Vice President and Chair of the Homecoming Steering Committee, was amazed at seeing her vision come to life.
“I’m very happy with the experience, especially because I get to see everybody enjoy it the same way I did creating it,” said Smith.
