With amendment 3 passing and Leon County projected to lose $71 million, what will happen to county services?

It appears amendment 3 has passed, which means that county’s discretionary budget (the funding not mandatorily designated for other services under state law) will drop from $74 million to $3 million.

What is likely to come next, and how is Leon County likely to make up the revinue shortfall?

I rounded to the nearest million, but according to the county, currently that $74 million goes to:

  • Public Safety & EMS: $37 million
  • Parks & Recreation Dept: $11 million
  • Library Services: $10 million
  • Growth Management & Roads: $6 million
  • Criminal Justice (Probation/Diversion): $3 million
  • Community Human Services & Emergency Assistance: $2 million
  • Primary Health Care: $2 million
  • Housing Services: $1 million
  • Mosquito Control: $1 million
  • Sustainability & Cooperative Extension: $1 million
  • Other Administration & Reserves: $1 million

Are these programs likely to be cut? A lot of those programs are a big part of what makes living here special.

Does the county have a plan to keep from having cuts to these services?

Edited to add: what can we do to keep things like our parks and libraries that make Leon County special?
