EDIT: A commenter asked about all speed cameras. The city’s current speed cameras will continue operating as they have been! CoT commission voted at the Aug 26 meeting (I think) to retain the speed zone camera contract they have in place. Please be cautious to not get a $100 ticket from the current ones! Original: Huge win! Thanks to all of you who showed up at the July 14 County meeting to make your voices heard. The county staff put out an excellent overview of what the county could and could not do re: Flock. The county did not set up a contract with Flock or any other ALPR vendor. Basically, the county only has legal purview over county property and right of ways. The board unanimously voted to remove permits for all ALPRs and requested the staff bring back an ordinance that would require a council vote before any future ALPRs would be permitted on county property. Flock and any other ALPR companies have 30 days to remove the cameras or the county will do it themselves. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office told the county attorney that they checked to make sure the cameras have not been recording data since Sheriff McNeil “suspended” LCSOs use of them on 8/31. According to the county attorney, LCSO announced they were ending their contract with Flock today/yesterday (can’t confirm). The ball is now in the city’s court to double down or follow suit… Next City meeting is Sept. 23. submitted by /u/Chernobylbro |
