Monticello names new city manager after former manager’s arrest on child sexual abuse material charges
Collins steps into the role after the city’s former manager Kurt Mackiewicz was arrested and accused of possessing child sexual abuse material. Interim City Manager Steve Wingate returned to fill the role back in May until the city could find a permanent replacement.
Collins has served as a city manager before and currently serves on the Wakulla County Planning Commission. City leaders say that experience was a big part of why they chose him. They are hoping he can step in without much of a learning curve and help bring stability to city hall.
“I think the main thing we need is consistency and someone that can walk in the door with experience and be able to hit the ground running. We need somebody that is not going to require a lot of one the job training, and Mr. Collins can certainly do that.” City Council Member Brian Bachman said.
Leaders also emphasized the importance of restoring public trust.
“We really really need to make sure the city, residents have confidence that their governments working for them that the city staff are working for them, and we can provide as seamless experience as possible.” Bachman said.
City leaders say they are ready to move forward and see what this next chapter brings for Monticello.
