I literally just saw a political ad demonizing Austen Rogers.
Let’s be clear: I have no intention of voting for Rogers. His commercial demonizing “communist China” is straight out of some McCarthy-era fear tactic, wherein they find a new boogeyman as prices everywhere are rising and our wallets are producing moths instead of money. He’s supported by the dictator in chief, who’s mentioned in the Epstein Files more times than Jesus is mentioned in the new testament.
If you wanna drag Rogers, go for it. Talk about his voting record. Bring up his residency. I honestly dgaf.
But dragging viewers through a 30-40 second commercial with cymbals in the background in some cheap, disney-esque wannabe caricature of Chinese music in the background and talking about how he helped build China’s economy, is an honest insult to people’s intelligence.
Bruh drag your opponents policies. Drag their residency when running for a north Florida/Tallahassee position when they moved here 6 months ago. Idfc. If you’re going drag an entire culture in your smear campaign, then I already know which party you are and I won’t be part of it. I’ve gotten smear campaigns via mail for Jeremy Matlow, but at least there, policies or even misinterpreted policies are being brought into questions.
I get that the dramatic smear campaigns sell, and the average voter doesn’t care about policies (apparently), but all that hate and discontent is legitimately frustrating as hell.
