Next Tuesday, July 14, the Leon County Commission will vote on whether to object to the voluntary annexation of 1,742 acres near Lake Jackson into the city limits. If successful, the annexation would pave the way for a massive mixed-use development, likely including thousands of homes, along with shopping and restaurants. The prospect of building a development of this size along a protected two-lane canopy road in the most ecologically sensitive area of our community has raised significant concerns about traffic, taxpayer costs, and the environment. You can read about these impacts, along with an explanation of how annexation can be used to green-light the development, at BeforeWeBuildTLH.org. If you believe the County should object to the annexation, I’d encourage you to email County Commissioners before Tuesday and ask them to vote yes on Staff Recommendation 1 for Agenda Item 20. You can also email City Commissioners before the September 9 public hearing to share your thoughts on the annexation petition. submitted by /u/Delicious-Cheetah752 |
