Hey all. I’m super embarrassed about this, but here we go. I (24F) have been a nail biter since I was a little kid. I’ve tried so many things over the years to make it stop and the only thing that has worked has been stretches of a few months at a time where I’ve had acrylics on and was going to get that done every few weeks. Obviously that’s expensive, so I would inevitably end up having to stop. Over the last year, my nail biting and finger skin picking has gotten significantly worse and I think it’s definitely time for me to go try and get my nails done again.

I’m new to Tallahassee and have never gotten my nails done here. The thought of booking a manicure and showing up to a random nail tech is so anxiety inducing because of how bad my nails are. I know I will be super embarrassed. Plus, I feel like not everyone would be equipped to handle the state that my nails are in, and I don’t want to overwhelm anyone. So, I would love any suggestions of nail techs to go to here in Tallahassee, or really just any advice surrounding this topic (e.g., what to ask for when I get a manicure, should I call in advance and say I’m a nail biter, etc).

One more thing to mention is that I’m a PhD student and money is pretty tight. That’s why I’ve held off on getting one for so long, but it’s getting to the point where my fingers are bleeding daily and I need to make this stop. So, if there is anyone who would also be cost effective, that would be lovely.

TLDR: I am a severe nail biter and would love suggestions for nail techs I can go to.
