The Florida A&M Rattlers will face tough competition this week as they take on Jackson State University.
Coach Colzie III praised the talented Jackson State Tigers while making it clear he knows what is at stake for his team. Although the Rattlers have four losses, they are still in contention to win the SWAC.
“You can’t make too many mistakes against this football team because they have the ability to put 40, 50 points on you,” FAMU head coach James Colzie III said. “Our work is cut out for us. They’ve got a very talented football team.”
The Rattlers have been up and down throughout the season, and Colzie still believes there are things to improve despite having a two-game winning streak.
Jackson State, on the other hand, is coming off a narrow loss to Grambling State. Colzie addressed the Tigers’ recent loss, saying they will be coming to play.
“There are things we’ve got to continue to improve on,” Colzie said. “Yes, we’re winning but when you play these guys you’ve got to be ready to go because they’re going to be ready to go as well.”
The Tigers are 5-2, with losses coming against Southern Miss, a Football Bowl Subdivision team and Grambling State last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are currently the top dogs in SWAC, according to the SWAC East standings.
Jackson State’s star quarterback, Jacobian Morgan, suffered a left foot injury against Grambling State that forced him to leave in the first quarter. He was later seen wearing a boot on his left foot.
If Morgan can’t play, the Rattlers will have to prepare to face redshirt freshman quarterback Parker Stofa or true freshman Jared Lockhart.
This heavy weight SWAC competition is set to kick-off is set on Nov.1 at 7 p.m. at Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
