Florida A&M University and Mississippi Valley State University football teams will no longer face off in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Oct. 4 at 4 p.m.

However, the game has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 29, Thanksgiving Weekend, as the Rattlers will now travel to Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Betta, Mississippi, to take on the Delta Devils.

“We regret the impact that this unexpected change will have on our fans,” FAMU said in a prepared statement. “And we will make every effort to provide a quality game-day experience during the rescheduled date of competition. While this outcome is disappointing for our fans and community, our focus remains on upholding the standards and integrity of our athletics programs.”

The unexpected bye week will now allow the Rattlers to reset and examine their strategy as a team sitting at 1-3 on the season. In their previous game against the Alabama State Hornets, the Rattlers had seven penalties for 75 yards and were unable to consistently push the ball down the field, with RJ Howard III only throwing for 133 yards and under for yards per attempt.

This June, FAMU Vice President and Athletic Director Angela Suggs first announced that the game will be moved to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium because Mississippi Valley State wanted the change.

FAMU’s next game will be against a stiff MEAC team in North Carolina Central on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
