
Authorities are currently on the scene of a reported shooting on Thursday at Florida State University; one suspect is currently in custody.
The university issued an emergency alert at 12:01 p.m. EDT, reporting a shooter near the Student Union. Students and staff were instructed to shelter in place, lock doors, and stay away from windows.
At least four individuals have been hospitalized at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, and one has been pronounced dead following the incident. A witness reported seeing a college-aged man exit the Student Union with a handgun, according to WCTV.
Around 12:40 p.m., Florida State University confirmed that police were on the scene. Anyone in need of urgent assistance was advised to call 911 or contact FSU Police at 850-644-1234.
For those not on FSU’s main campus, the university advises avoiding coming to campus at this time, and that all classes and university events for Thursday are cancelled.
The university is still under lockdown at this time.
