It was 3;30 on a cloudless. clear afternoon. We were heading East on Orange Ave. as we pulled up to the stoplight at Capital Circle. There were no large buildings in Southwood at that location in 2003. Our attention was immediately captured by the unearthly dark charcoal color of an object appearing to be nestled against a cell tower or radio mast not far away. We scrutinized it for about 90 seconds. It looked exactly like a flying saucer from an old movie. It had domes top and bottom and a surrounding rim which tapered to a thin edge. There was an appendage sticking out of the top which resembled a pitot tube. It was perhaps 100 feet in diameter and 40 feet in height. It was solid, three dimensional and real. After studying the craft I made the most regrettable mistake of my life. The light turned green and I reflexively made a left on Capital Circle. I immediately realized my blunder, made a U-turn after about 50 feet and returned to the scene. Nothing. My wife claims the craft began to shimmer like a heat mirage as we pulled away. We drove around Southwood scouring the sky but no trace. We were all sane straight and sober. We would love to discuss this with anyone. We are now confirmed believers. They wouldn't play our music. The place was old and run down looking. The girl working behind the counter wouldn't get off her phone to help my daughter for her birthday songs. My wife got a splinter in her at that place. They didn't have any food. They were rude and running us out the door when it was time to go. I'll do another place next time. Not a very nice place I thought. I am from Atlanta and this was a real let down in what a skating rink is supposed to be. Next time I will shop around a little more and find something better to do. Tallahassee could take some lessons on how to manage a skating rink. A real waste if you ask me. We had a birthday party there in August for my daughter and we were really let down.
